In church, I was taught that Jesus was crucified with two criminals, one who mocked him and one who believed in him. The one who believed in Jesus was supposed to have been taken to heaven with him. I do believe that there are verses to back that story up. However, this verse seems to contradict that version of the story. It states that those who were being crucified with him also taunted him; it implies that they all taunted him.
I would love to hear your thoughts about this verse. Where you taught that all of those being crucified mocked Jesus or were you taught that one believed in him? If you are Christian, please share what you believe happened and why you believe it.

Matthew 27:44 The bandits who were crucified with him also taunted him in the same way.
